我中美洲友邦瓜地馬拉總統培瑞斯（Otto Perez Molina）因涉及進口稅的貪汙案2日宣布辭職下台，成了瓜國第一位辭職下台的元首。少了司法豁免權保護傘的他，3日出庭應訊後被法院諭令羈押，由於時值瓜國6日舉行國會與總統選舉的敏感時刻，培瑞斯入獄讓瓜國陷入政治危機。培瑞斯下台後，由法官出身的副總統馬多納多接任其職位，任期到明年1月14日新總統就職。

64歲培瑞斯被控與一個貪腐集團串通，私下降低一些進口商的進口關稅，以換取鉅額賄賂。該醜聞被瓜地馬拉檢方和一個聯合國反貪免團體共同調查揭發。國會1日褫奪他的司法豁免權，2日他就遭檢方依涉貪及詐騙起訴，培瑞茲同日提出辭職，國會一致表決通過，隨即出庭應訊並被法官諭令羈押。華府智庫「威爾遜中心」研究員歐爾森說，檢察長無畏壓力要求收押總統，可見瓜國的法制還能有效運作。瓜國定6日舉行首輪總統大選，若無一候選人得票過半，則在10月25日舉行第二輪決選。但不少人呼籲應推遲選舉。(中國時報)，
